Two new Fransaskois schools announced
The Minister of Education ends a long wait by the fransaskois community.
Regina, September 25 2024 - Following the announcement by the Minister of Education, Honourable Jeremy Cockrill, confirming the construction of new Fransaskois schools in Prince Albert and Saskatoon, the President of the Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise (ACF), Mr. Denis Simard, made the following statement: “This announcement has been long awaited; it is the final step in a historic agreement for three new Fransaskois schools. This agreement was essential to ensure the continued development of the Fransaskois community. We thank the provincial government for respecting its commitments to the Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CEF) and the entire Fransaskois community.”
These new constructions will mark a new stage in French-language education in Saskatchewan. These schools will attract more students and families, and students and teachers will find new, modern spaces adapted to today’s education.
In addition, proximity will better serve families, minimizing school trips and providing new early childhood services. These infrastructures will facilitate the decongestion of existing spaces and provide more families with better access to French-language education, as well as meet urgent needs in Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
The ACF is aware of the efforts invested and congratulates the elected officials of the Francophone School Board (Conseil scolaire fransaskois CSF) and the CEF team for their hard work. "I thank the Ministry of Education, the members of the CSF, the CEF, the school councils and the parents who invested in this project and who made this announcement possible today," concluded Denis Simard.
This announcement marks an essential step in the life of our community. The time has now come to prepare the next agreement that will allow us to continue developing the network of Fransaskois schools and meet the current and future needs of French-language education in Saskatchewan.
